Billy Chasen, a talented developer who I worked with on Nickelodeon’s Parents Connect while he was at Code & Theory created a working heart that pumps blood in a box for the American Heart Association’s 2008 New York Gala. Billy is a very creative guy who has made some really interesting pieces, some of which can be seen on his website.

700 Years into the future, mankind leaves our planet.
Leaving Earth’s cleanup in the hands of one incredible machine.

His name is WALL-E…

WALL-E is going to be the best Pixar film yet. The story is incredible and the animation work and direction continues the tradition of pushing the envelope at Pixar.

Big-Dog : AT-Walker Version 1

The Boston Dynamics Big-Dog. An impressive walking robot being developed under a D.A.R.P.A. grant.

It really looks like an oversized walking dog but it’s really supposed to be a “mule” to help soldiers carry heavy loads.

I think it’s an AT-Walker Version 1

Inglish

It’s a new way to sing in “Inglish”, or perhaps just artistic representation of the way that Mariah sings?

The Oscar’s are over with and it’s time to start looking for the next awards. One category that I’d like to see for the 2009 Oscar’s is a user-generated category honoring the best of the films made by individuals that are typically uploaded to sites like youtube.

Films like Bunny Animation:

ImprovEverywhere – The Grand Central Frozen Mission

ImprovEverywhere

I love what Charlie Todd started with these missions and the agents who participate. These have mostly been in NYC over the past 5 years, but are now going worldwide. ImprovEverywhere is defining a new entertainment format which encourages participation in a live format allowing a spontaneous community to gather with a single objective (or mission) in mind. The participants are the mission agents.
It’s also refreshing that in the post 9/11 age society is able to continue with public art & entertainment projects.

The Grand Central Frozen Mission (Saturday, Jan 26) – most recent mission.

Some of the other notable “missions” are the Abercrombe & Finch “shirtless”, Best Buy and the Home Depot Slow Motion shopping mission with a bonus song played in the store during the mission. The No Pants mission was a world wide event that actually received quite a bit of press.

The MP3 missions are interesting – they distribute a MP3 file and every body hits the play button at the same time time. Kind of a large, public simon says.
