Apple’s AppStore passes the 2 Billion Mark

The Apple AppStore for the iPhone and iPod Touch has now passed the two (2) billion apps “purchased” (some of the purchases are actually free). That’s a LOT of downloads. There are now about 86,000 Apps in the store, most duplicating the functionality of another.

What is significant is that in just over a year since the SDK became available a huge number of users have purchased a huge number of apps.

This new business model is something we are going to see much more of in the future. Any new devices that are destined for the “mobile” market will use the AppStore model for application distribution.

Think Apple will ever release a tablet or netbook type computer that runs OSX (as in the version that runs on MacBooks, iMacs and MacPros)? Think again. Any such device released by Apple in the future will rely on the same model of a centralized distribution of software via the AppStore.

Fatty Spins – Ray sings “Apple Store Love Song”.
Filmed “on location” at the Apple 5th Ave Store using a store MacBook. The audio was dubbed in the “studio” since the live audio was pretty bad.
The original version is here.
